Our house is on the market, so we had to disappear for an hour or so this morning. What better place to go than to go to the neighborhood pool. Hugh and I packed up the kids and the sunscreen, and the water, and the toys and the camera and the cooler, and the ..... OK - We looked like a nomadic family with all of our possessions on our back.
Connor loved getting right in the water and cooling off, while Kate was more interested in playing on the deck near Daddy.
The gang went out to the Maggie Valley Country club for a buffet lunch. Kate and Connor did really well (once they realized that they could run around outside after our lunch).
Tom was thoughtful enough to buy some special "duck bread" (white bread!) so that Kate and Connor could go feed the ducks. To keep everyone calm, we decided to feed the ducks from the bridge rather than the bank. I think it was just as well as Kate and Connor were a little overwhelmed at the sight of 20 ducks and geese swimming towards them.
While we had a really nice time during the day, the fireworks that night was the special treat. Sitting on Tom and Martha's back porch and watching the fireworks over the lake was awesome. Kate and Connor managed to stay awake (the fireworks didn't even start until 9:30pm). While they didn't have much to "say" - they weren't afraid and seemed to enjoy seeing the explosions of sound and color.
We headed up to Cousin Martha and Tom's lake house in Lake Junaluska, NC for the long weekend. We were joined by Hugh's Mom, sisters Ruth, and Sister Patrick, along with Fiance Patrick. A good crowd to go watch the parade on July 3rd (Methodist rertreat town - you can't have a parade on Sunday morning - so Saturday had to do!).
After the parade, we headed over to the town picnic. I'm not sure it's fair to say that Kate and Connor ate lunch - as they mostly ate potato chips and watermelon. Oh well - it's a holiday. While they were amped up for a while, we had missed our morning nap - so it wasn't long before they were ready to crash and sleep.
I'm a new mid-life Momma who is very proud of her babies. On this blog, I'm trying to keep up with all of the activities and goings on - both major and minor.
As the youngest of five children, there weren't many pictures of me growing up (then again, there wasn't digital photography either). So - I'm over-compensating and over-documenting! Hope Connor, Kate and Kylie enjoy reading this blog about their early years (once they learn to read)!
